Week 1 Reflection
Sophia DeVito Blog Post 1:
My first week in Dev formal and informal assessments I feel like I have learned a lot. Not only do I know that I have learned new material, I enjoy going to the class Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. I love going and knowing I'm leaving with knowledge that will really help me when I become a teacher one day. I'm going to talk about just some of the things I learned from week one and I will use them later in life.
what one of the main things we talked about was assessment. Assessment is super important, my definition of it would be that assessment is observing, recording in any way and documenting the work that children do throughout the day. It's about gathering all the information you can and being able to really understand how a child is doing in that class. Another way to assess a child is called sampling, you just take different samples of the students work as opposed to just using that whole worksheet.
one thing that we reflected on a lot was why we assess our students. our class shared many different answers but the ones that stood out the most were, to monitor students development, to guide planning and decision making, and lastly to see which children would benefit the most from special services.
Hi Sophia! I really enjoyed reading your reflection. I love that you touched on the main ideas covered during week one and shared why assessment is important to you. I also agree that ELEC 316 offers a wealth of knowledge for us as future teachers. Thanks for sharing! :)
ReplyDeleteI love the concluding statement to your post, as to why we assess students. Prior to this course, my perspective on assessments was limited to that as a student, but with the new content I've been provided this past week, I now have a better understanding and appreciation for them. Great post!
